 Music

About Music at
St Bart's

Music is important to our worship at St Bartholomews, and our main service of the week, the 10am Sung Eucharist contains many musical elements. It is called a 'sung' Eucharist because certain parts of the worship are expressed with music. Both the priest and the congregation join in singing.

Singing is integral to worship. If we cannot sing to God in worship, how can we ever sing or God in the world. Singing also unites us, helping us all to participate as one: many voices proclaiming one song.

Children are encouraged to sing in Junior Church, and Bubble Church has engaging songs for little ones.

The Choir

Our choir of adults and children sing together and lead the congregation in song at the 10am Sung Eucharist. They sing a range of music from the 16th century to the modern day.

Choir practices are held on a Friday evening:

  • 5pm to 5:30pm the children focus on music theory, helping them to understand the music they sing.

  • 5:30pm to 6pm the children practise hymns and anthems.

  • 6pm to 7pm the adults join and the whole choir practise the music to be sung on Sunday.

If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact our Choirmaster
