Confirmation
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is a special service in which you affirm for yourself the promises that were made at your baptism and commit your life to following Jesus Christ.
If you were baptized as a child, your parents and godparents made those promises on your behalf. At Confirmation, you have the opportunity to make them your own. It marks an important step in your journey of faith; a time to say yes to God, and to receive the strengthening of the Holy Spirit for your Christian life.
During the service, the Bishop lays hands on each candidate’s head and prays for the Holy Spirit to be at work in their lives, giving strength, courage and joy in following Christ. The service includes hymns, readings and prayers, and celebrating Holy Communion, and is a joyful occasion shared with family, friends, and the wider church community. There is often a celebration afterwards too!
Who can be confirmed?
Anyone who has been baptized and feels ready to make their own Christian commitment can be confirmed. There is no set age: some are confirmed in their early teens, others as adults or later in life. What matters most is your desire to grow in faith and live as a follower of Jesus.
If you are considering Confirmation, you will be invited to join a short course of preparation. This gives time to explore what it means to be a Christian, to deepen your understanding of the faith, and to ask any questions you may have.
After Confirmation
Being confirmed is not the end of the journey, but a new beginning. Confirmed Christians are encouraged to share fully in the life of the Church, including receiving Holy Communion, joining in worship and prayer, and serving others in Christ’s name.
Many people find it helpful to stay connected with others from their preparation group, or to join a home or study group to continue growing in faith together.
Next steps
If you would like to explore being confirmed, please speak to the Vicar or contact the Parish Office. Our next course of preparation will be announced in church and on the website.
Whether you were baptised recently or many years ago, Confirmation is a wonderful opportunity to renew your faith, receive God’s blessing, and take your next step in the Christian journey.
