Basement Project returning soon...

What is the Basement Project?

The Basement Project is a registered charity supporting young people aged 8 to 25 who live in Benton, Longbenton, Forest Hall and Palmersville.
We’re open after school and provide a warm, safe and friendly environment where young people can socialise, gain support and enjoy free meals.

Since opening in 2014, we’ve welcomed hundreds of young people through our doors. Based in the basement under St Bart’s Church Hall, we’ve created a place where everyone is valued, encouraged and supported to reach their potential.

What we have to offer.

  • A Safe Space. A friendly, inclusive environment for young people to relax, chat, and be themselves.

  • Homework & Learning Support. Our computer suite is available for schoolwork, online learning and creative projects.

  • Fun & Friendship. A comfortable TV area, games consoles, board games, and crafts provide something for everyone.

  • Healthy Meals. Free, home-cooked meals and snacks are available each session.

  • Sports & Activities. With access to a large church hall, we offer a range of indoor sports and team games.

  • Practical Support. Our facilities include a fully fitted kitchen and showers, offering comfort and dignity for all who need them.

Our Mission and our Aims

The Basement Project exists to unlock the potential of every young person who walks through our doors. We aim to nurture character, build confidence, and support growth, enabling young people to become responsible, caring members of their community.

We strive to:

  • Meet the needs of young people aged 8 to 25 (with a particular focus on high school-aged children) living in the North East of England.

  • Promote education, learning and recreation, encouraging curiosity and creativity.

  • Nurture character and build confidence, supporting emotional and personal development.

  • Empower young people to contribute to society, share their experiences, and celebrate their culture.

Get involved

Whether you’re a young person looking for a welcoming place to go after school, a parent seeking support, or someone who’d like to volunteer or donate, we’d love to hear from you.

Together, we can help young people in our community shine and grow.
