Spotlight on... The Oxford Movement

Why do some Anglican churches use incense, vestments, candles and elaborate ceremonial? Why do Anglicans hold such different views about the sacraments, the authority of the Church and the meaning of worship?

This Spotlight session will explore the Oxford Movement, the nineteenth-century movement which sought to recover the Catholic inheritance of the Church of England. We will meet figures such as John Keble, Edward Pusey and John Henry Newman, and discover how their ideas developed into the diverse tradition now known as Anglo-Catholicism.
