About the event
The Liturgy of Good Friday
The Liturgy of Good Friday is a solemn and reflective service marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his sacrificial death. This service emphasises themes of suffering, redemption, and the profound love of God for humanity, with prayer and beautiful music.
The readings from Scripture recount the Passion of Christ, highlighting the depth of his suffering and the significance of his sacrifice. The atmosphere is one of mourning and contemplation, as the faithful gather to remember the ultimate act of love that defines their faith.
During the service, worshippers engage in the Veneration of the Cross, in which we are invited to honour the cross of Jesus.
Holy Communion is not celebrated on Good Friday but we share the sacrament reserved the night before.
The service concludes with the account of the Burial of Jesus.
