About the event

The Liturgy of Maundy Thursday

This service is one of the most significant in the Church calendar, focusing on humility, service, and sacrifice, reflecting Jesus' teachings during his final hours.

The liturgy includes the Washing of Feet, symbolising humility and servitude.

In this service the priest washes volunteers' feet, mirroring Jesus at the Last Supper.

There is the Celebration of the Last Supper, sharing bread and wine according to Jesus' command.

Then there is the Stripping of the Altar.  The church is pared back and all of its decoations sare removed in preparation for Good Friday. This symbolizes Jesus' abandonment in Gethsemane, reminding us of vulnerability in the Christian journey.

The service concludes with The Watch. The sacrament for Good Friday's service is taken in procession to a separate altar in the church hall, where we are invited to sit and watch for one hour, just as Jesus had asked the disciples to stay awake with him.
